Groundswell encourages people to consider the natural and cultivated landscapes in which they live. This is an appreciation of the relationship between nature and culture.
Gardens cultivate an interest in both the productive and creative aspects of growing. They are spaces that encourage imagination and also a collaboration between creativity and the environment.
The domestic or community garden reflects the richness of growing food and natural habitats, and celebrates the changing seasons and cultural traditions associated with different times of the year. It is also a social activity that encourages links between people and nature.
The sharing of food, stories and the nature of cultural heritage promotes a relationship with the land that is alive with meaning. Groundswell works to encourage the development of gardening skills within the context of social gatherings and references gardening as an expression of individual and collective identity.
